The perfect bags for drinks with clients
Okay, so I have to admit something. The bags in this article aren’t just for drinks with clients. These evening bags work just as well for going out with your friends. And let’s face it, most of them are so expensive that you want to be able to use them for more than one occasion.
Classic Saint Laurent
I have to start with what has quickly become my favorite bag this season. I didn’t notice the model before I discovered it in this intense teal with silver hardware.
The Saint Laurent Monogram sunset medium is a perfect combination of classic and modern. The bag feels very heavy for its size, and it rooms quite a lot.
It has three pockets, of which two are the full size of the bag in width. One last pocket on the outside has just enough space for a mobile phone.
Having enough room for a phone is becoming increasingly more difficult as the iPhones grow. My new rule is that if it doesn’t have room for my phone, the bag has to go.
The bag is tough and keeps its shape. Scratches are minimal, even though I take it out, spill on it, and put it down every time I’m at a bar.
The only thing I don’t like with this is that it doesn’t have a strap. I try only using it at dinners, and not on networking events where I have to stand. If I need to use one hand for holding the bag, and the other for the drink, it starts getting harder to swap business cards.
Some varieties come with a chain as well, and many love the version with a tassel attached. This season, I have seen a beautiful new black color that seems new to the brand. The logo also comes in a shiny black, instead of the sharp gold or silver. It would be perfect for someone who likes the bag but is uncomfortable with all the noise created by the logo flashing.
Cheaper options with Chloé
Chloé bags are expensive, but not as expensive as the other brands on here. I think the quality is durable, so they are worth a look if you have a smaller budget.
I don’t even try to hide that Chloé is one of my favorite brands for bags. However, I have missed a small statement bag after they stopped producing the Chloé Elsie bag. The statement hardware was a great eye-catcher, and the size perfect for a night out where you need to bring some makeup in addition to your phone.
This season, I am starting to like the Chloé Mini Drew more and more. The shape takes some time to get used to, so that is probably why I am slower with this one than with others.
I also like the mini version of Faye, but I don’t use it nearly as much as its big sister. I got mine the only season they produced a clutch without the shoulder strap, and I regret it now, as the clutch is not nearly as versatile. Definitely go with the shoulder strap option instead.
If you want an even cheaper bag that still looks classic this season, try the LK Bennet Alana Suede clutch. The envelope shape is a bit narrower than most similar bags, but it looks good.
The silver detail is what really makes this stand out, and I could easily use this instead of the Givenchy Antigona clutch.
Understated punk rock
Another gorgeous tiny bag with amazing silver details is the Valentino rock stud leather bag. It comes in wonderful light hues of baby blue and pink. Some versions are patterned with pictures of flowers, butterflies, or other tiny creatures.
I would typically shy away from everything that is stamped with crazy statement pictures, but it works surprisingly well with this one. I wouldn’t use it for a very formal event, but it would work for just drinks.
A lot of them were on sale this Christmas, but the only one I’ve seen left is the one with the butterflies, which isn’t the coolest one.
I have yet to purchase one, but I would consider this one in baby pink, just because it’s cute.
As classic as it gets with Mulberry and Chanel
It comes in at least three different sizes. The two largest ones are perfectly capable of rooming both makeup and phones, while the smallest one doesn’t. It has room for an iPhone 8 in the smallest size if you really try to squeeze it in place. But you will have trouble closing the bag.
The only other things you could get in there, are a pair of keys, one lipstick, and some cards. Luckily, it comes with some tiny card pockets.
If you like something even more classic, and you have a bigger budget, you can’t go wrong with a Chanel 2.55 classic flap bag when going out.
Chanel will always be a classic, but it can look a bit tacky at times because so many people carry it.
Personally, I cringe every time I see someone with a Jumbo size Chanel 2.55. I would never wear it when going out with a client. In fact, I would never wear it period.
I’d say there are a few things you can do if you want to buy one that isn’t screaming “look at me”. Buy a smaller size, find a vintage model, and at least stay with a standard color like black or beige.
The Chanel boy bag also looks gorgeous, and the hardware is a bit more muted, so it instantly gets you a more vintage feeling than the other bags.
There’s a reason why the bags are not nearly as popular as the shoes. They often come off as glittery and cheap, and they don’t have a consistent design that people will recognize.
There is, however, one model I find incredibly beautiful. It’s the Mini Rebel. It’s convenient for going out since it can be fully locked. It isn’t hard to open, but you have to bend the hardware to get it up. This means you are more likely to feel it if someone is going through your bag in a crowd.
This post could easily contain 20 more styles that are cool for going out. These are some of the styles I feel can be used out with your friends, as well as when you’re going for drinks with clients.
